Blinking neon sign: (BIO)
This is just the obligatory "Bio" page that is required by some not-so-official-unwritten-rules-of-the-Internet, or something.

Okay, let's start off with the basics:

My real name is David Johle, which everyone seems to have trouble pronouncing. It's really easy if you just say Joe and Lee together--it's pretty simple once you hear it. Having an uncommon, difficult to pronounce last name does have its advantages though, making it easy to identify those annoying tele-marketers when they call at the worst possible times. Of course, caller ID helps a bit with that, too -- technological advances have even made my last name obsolete!

I am currently living in Houston, TX, inside the loop. In May of 2000 I graduated from the University of Houston with a BS degree in Computer Science & minor in Math. I started a job as a Unix System Administrator with Industrial Information Resources, Inc., which upgraded me from computer nerd to full-time geek status. I have since been promoted to Computer Operations Manager, and am now the VP of Information Technology. At IIR I do just about everything related to computers -- system design, system administration, programming in a variety of languages, database administration, project management, even some PBX configuration every now and then.

Since late 1997 I have been operating a Web Hosting business in my spare time, and continue to do this along side of my full-time job. I offer some very reasonable rates for Web Hosting in case you have a site that needs a place to stay. If you already know how to create web pages, but need a place to put them, just head on over to Dr. Cheap's Cheap Home Page Hosting. If you are a designer, ask about the reseller's program!

Now that I've given the business a plug, let me tell you some more about myself--after all that's what this page is here for!

If you haven't figured it out already, my favorite hobby is using computers for everything possible. I have been using them for over 20 years--ever since my father bought an IBM PCjr in 1982. I try to do anything and everything I can on the computer and/or try to incorporate computers into anything and everything that I already do without them. As soon as they come down in price, I'll probably own a wearable computer and be surfing the 'net as I walk down the street, and run into things as the HUD distracts me. Help support my existence on this planet as a geek by sending me something from my ThinkGeek Wishlist.

I got my start with the Internet back in 1994 by connecting through a local BBS -- my first UNIX account was soon to follow. The Internet was not much to get overly excited about, even when I used Netscape 1.1N and saw graphics on a web page for the first time (this was way back before blinking text was outlawed). Since then I have been keeping up with all the advances with Internet related technology, and helped run an Internet Service Provider in Dallas, TX for about a year. I did a little bit of everything there: Tech Support, System Administration, Networking, Web Page Design, Hardware & Software Installation, etc...

To keep myself from becoming a total propeller head (or is it too late?), I have a few other hobbies to keep me busy. I like to listen to music, especially from my elaborate collection of songs from the 80s. I also enjoy dance music, which is really good to listen to while driving. I have tried to compose my own songs, but am far from a musician. Since I am not that good at it, and don't have the time necessary, I've resorted to making CD-length mixes of other peoples' best (IMO) works. I must thank them very much, and I appreciate the amount of time and effort that went into making the music.

So what else do I occupy the rest of my time with? I spend most of the remaining time with my wife Mikki. I occasionally go out with my friends or Mikki's friends, but pretty we much just go out together or hang out at home watching movies or playing video games. We got married in Jamaica on April 19th, 1999 at a luxury resort -- both her and my parents were able to attend as well. We never wanted a big or traditional wedding, so this worked out perfectly. There used to be some pictures from the wedding over in the photo gallery.

So what else is there for me to tell? Okay, I'm out of ideas right now...or maybe my brain just melted into a pool of goo. Either way, if you have any questions or suggestions, be sure to let me know! Thanks for taking the time to read all of the rambling :)
